IDF 2022: Intel's Drone Aspirations Take Flight With Project Aero

SAN FRANCISCO—At the on-going Intel Developer Forum (IDF), Intel did a lot to shed its processor image, most notably with its Project Alloy 'merged reality' initiative. If that is too earth-bound, Intel too got something that would really go things flying: Projection Aero.

Rather than a specific product, Project Aero—or Intel Aero as it is called—is a platform on which developers tin build any kind of drone they tin can conceive. The playing-card-size Aero device is based on a Quad-Cadre Intel Atom processor that offers the storage, communications, and I/O capabilities needed for whatsoever drone. An optional Vision Accompaniment Kit gives the device the ability to run applications equally needed. The Aero compute board is currently available for purchase for US$399 at click.intel.com.

Those who are feeling less adventurous have another option to consider. The Aero Ready To Fly Drone is a pre-assembled quad-copter based on the Intel Aero platform that also incorporates an Intel RealSense photographic camera to give it what the company calls "depth and vision capabilities." Plug-and-play options make it piece of cake to adapt the Set To Fly drone to other usages, featuring seamless functions like flight control, vision, and airspace service. According to Intel, the Prepare To Fly Drone volition be bachelor by the cease of the year.

Considering this had been the base of operations platform model, it stands to reason that creative and enterprising developers will be able to spin off Intel Aero into even more visually and technologically heady directions in the months to come.
